Notes from the VP of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
VP of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Cynthia Nyongesa
The office of the Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (VP EDI) serves to advocate for inclusive and equitable institutional policies for the graduate community. The VP EDI also promotes cross-cultural and service-related programming with cultural student organizations across campus. Service programs entail various community outreach initiatives and events. This office also coordinates and works with the other community resource centers (i.e. Cross-Cultural Community Center, Black Resource center, LGBT Resource Center, etc.) and the Graduate Division’s Campus Climate Intern.
This office has two internal committees that report directly to the VP EDI. The GPSA Diversity Committee serves to act as an advisory committee to the office and to GPSA general council. This committee meets monthly and is lead by two co-chairs. The Cultural Student Organizations Council (CSOC) serves to act as a link between graduate cultural student organizations and the VP EDI.
This office also appoints representatives to campus-wide committees. These committees function to develop dialogue between students and administrators. All committee appointments under this office have two-year terms. If you are interested in learning more about the GPSA Diversity Committee, the CSOC, or the various campus-wide committees, please email the Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at vpequity@gsa.ucsd.edu.
